People Management - A growing need of the hour
While we continue to wait for #justicefortilottama, which has triggered the unraveling of a rampant unfair work scenario in government medical colleges, one must cognize that the "unfair" aspect exists everywhere, including the corporate space.

So often we hear incidents where a male employee misbehaves with a female counterpart, or a manager speaks deregoratively with a subordinate. When the matter is reported to the HR team, often it is routed to the Operations Head. The Operations Head probably receives such complaints regularly, but he/she thinks that I am here to drive and bring business. Do I really have so much time to listen and address people's issues? This is precisely why it is necessary to have in place someone who can take care of People Management.
Most organizations may not take it seriously as this is an additional cost against zero revenue. However, having a People's Manager ensures that all issues flagged by employees (irrespective of their rank) are carefully heard and addressed. More importantly, this helps in giving fair treatment to all, whereby the person who was ill-treated gets justice if the matter is genuine.
Unfortunately, the reality today is different. The "victim" sees the manager sharing a laugh with the offender the next day and feels that there is no room for justice. Probably in every domain we wait for bigger things to happen before we take necessary steps.
